Pulling Stringers For Bead Work To Be Done

Sometimes we sit down at the torch meaning to make something unbelievably beautiful, but something seems to be in the way...worry perhaps or anxiety about the time available to work. Never mind. Just make stringers or latticcino. You can never have too many!

White stringers in two different thicknesses. There are many who work with just one size and it is totally easy to make fine dots with either a rod or a fairly sturdy stringer, but I have definitely found that fine stringers have their place at my work bench.

Certain kinds of glass can be particularly useful pulled down fine.

Some of the Double Helix colors for example. I keep "Triton" pulled down this way. It is tricky to use and when you are making dots, you want it to melt in fast at a touch because too much flame can destroy the magic in "double helix" Triton Glass. You need to be able to flash the bead in the softer flame to pick up that shine without cooking it into dullness. These dots were successfully shining.

Black and white stringers always need to be ready and are also wonderful when pulled down fine. Having clear stringer colors and indeed clear itself ready will allow you to case silver leaf easily. Clear fine stringers cut relatively short are used to curl complex cane into swirls and shells.

(I have a Youtube channel full of glass demonstrations made in the 1990's before I had a digital camera.)

A video demonstration of pulling stingers and latticcino can be found here:
